1KD injectors for the Toyota Hilux, Prado and HiAce

The 1KD-FTV is Toyota's 3.0 litre, four-cylinder D-4D common rail turbo diesel. It powered the Hilux (including the N70 / KUN26 model from 2005 to 2015), Prado and HiAce in Australia for more than a decade, and plenty of them are still working hard with big kilometres on the clock. The injectors are the part that wears first. When one starts to fail, the fitting kit, lines, leak-off rail and suction control valve are worth checking at the same time, so we've put every 1KD fuel system part we stock on one page. Whether you're searching for Hilux or N70 injectors, Prado injectors, 1KD injector lines, a 1KD SCV or a 1KD-FTV injector by part number, this is the place to start.

Which vehicles use the 1KD-FTV?

Toyota changed the 1KD injector several times as emissions rules tightened, and injectors from different versions are not interchangeable. The surest way to get the right one is to read the part number off the injector body, or call us on 0433 721 935 with your VIN or rego and we'll confirm fitment before you order.

Signs your 1KD injectors are worn

  • Rough or lumpy idle, especially from cold
  • Knocking or a louder-than-usual diesel rattle
  • White or black smoke, or a strong fuel smell
  • Loss of power, flat spots or poor fuel economy
  • Hard starting or long cranking
  • A "chuffing" sound and black carbon around an injector, which points to a failed injector seal

Worn 1KD injectors often show up as excessive back-leakage, so a return flow (back-leak) test is the quickest way to confirm it. Our Diagnose Your Diesel guide walks through the common checks. Don't leave a faulty injector too long: a dripping or over-fuelling injector on a 1KD can damage pistons, which turns an injector job into an engine rebuild.

On high-kilometre diesels with EGR, carbon also builds up in the intake manifold. If your engine feels sluggish or regenerates its DPF often, see our intake carbon cleaning service, and our injector testing if you want to confirm the injectors before replacing them.

Doing the job properly: what to replace with the injectors

  • Injector fitting kit: new seals and washers every time an injector comes out. Re-using old seals is the most common cause of leaks and blow-by after an injector change.
  • 1KD injector lines: the high-pressure pipes from the rail to each injector (23701-0L010 to 23704-09015) are designed to seal once. Replace them if they've been loosened several times or show any marks on the seats.
  • Leak-off (return) rail: old plastic return rails go brittle and crack when disturbed.
  • 1KD suction control valve (SCV): a sticking SCV causes surging, stalling and hesitation that's easily mistaken for an injector fault. See our SCV guide.
  • Injector driver (EDU) 89871-25010: if the engine won't start or injectors aren't firing, the driver is worth testing.

Genuine Denso, not copies

Every 1KD injector we sell is a genuine Denso unit, the same manufacturer that supplies Toyota. Cheap copies are common online and frequently fail early or don't match the original spray pattern and flow. All our injectors come with a 12-month warranty and ship fast Australia-wide.

1KD turbo

The 1KD turbo is another common wear item on high-kilometre Hiluxes. We stock the genuine IHI 17201-0L042 turbocharger for the Hilux KUN26 and a 1KD/2KD turbo fitting kit. See all Toyota diesel parts.

1KD injector FAQs

Should I replace all four 1KD injectors at once?

We recommend it. Injectors wear at a similar rate, and a matched set gives even fuelling across all cylinders. Replacing one at a time usually means another job soon after.

Do new 1KD injectors need coding?

Later 1KD injectors carry a compensation (ID or QR) code that has to be programmed into the ECU with a capable diagnostic scan tool after fitting. Your mechanic or diesel specialist can do this when the injectors go in.

Are Euro 3 and Euro 4 1KD injectors interchangeable?

No. They use different part numbers and aren't swappable. Check the number on your existing injector or contact us with your VIN before ordering.

Does the 1KD fitting kit suit the 2KD-FTV?

Yes. Our injector fitting kit suits both the 1KD-FTV 3.0L and the 2KD-FTV 2.5L engines.

Can you install the injectors for me?

Yes. See our workshop installation service, or call 0433 721 935.
